Description
Masonsil Impregnating
Agent is used for the colourless, water repellent impregnation of
absorbent mineral building materials. The product's high alkali
resistance makes it suitable for application to highly alkaline
building materials such as fresh concrete, plaster, calcium silicate
brick, fibrous cement, expanded concrete. It is also effective as
water-repellent treatment for all other porous building materials,
e.g. brick, natural and cast stone, silicate paints. Masonsil
Impregnating Agent can be used as primer for silicone resin paints,
emulsion paints and synthetic resin plaster. The low molecular
weight of the form supplied enables the product to penetrate deeply
into the building material. It can even be applied to slightly damp
materials.

Instructions for
Use In the form supplied Masonsil
Impregnating Agent is unsuitable for use as a water repellent. It
has to be thinned. Suitable solvents are anhydrous aliphatic or
aromatic hydrocarbons and alcohols. The solubility and stability
of Masonsil in aromatic free solvents such as: Exxsol D 30, D 40, D
60, Isopar G, L (Esso Chemie), Shellsol T (Shell Chemie), EC-Solvent
160/200 (EC Erdö lchemie). By using one of these formulations with
mild odour are possible. We recommend an active siloxane content
of approx. 6 % w/w. in the final impregnating solution which can be
achieved by thinning as follows: -1 part w/w Masonsil -17 parts
w/w Solvent which roughly corresponds to 1 part by vol.
Masonsil 22 parts by vol. solvent depending on the density of the
solvent used. The ready-to-use impregnating agent can be
applied in one or more coats to the dry and absorbent building material.
It should be applied generously and evenly and a second coat should
be applied while the first is still wet. Large surfaces should
be treated by "flooding" (spraying and allowing the solution of
impregnating agent to run down the surface like a curtain). It is
also possible to apply the product by brushing or dipping. Adjacent
surfaces such as doors and windows, non-absorbent surfaces, etc.
should be covered to avoid contact with the impregnation
solution. The quantity of impregnating agent required depends on
the absorbtivity of the building material. In practice, it can vary
between 0.1 and 1 l/m2. 1 l Masonsil (thinned for use) is sufficient
to treat:
| fibrous cement |
concrete |
calcium silicate brick |
plaster |
brickwork |
expanded concrete |
| 10.0 - 15.0 m2 |
3.0 - 5.0 m2 |
2.0 - 3.0 m2 |
1.5 - 2.5 m2 |
1.5 - 2.5 m2 |
1.0 m2 |
Preliminary trials are recommended to determine the suitability
and effect of the impregnating solution and the quantities
required.
